After eight years in the big city of dreams, Mr. Guapo and I are moving on to greener, warmer, more polluted pastures. You'll find it all chronicled here at Gweilicious and no doubt Norlos will have something to say about our wanderings.
I settled on the name Gweilicious because it's Gweilo - and Delicious. Gweilicious. And food will figure prominently into my posts, no doubt.
So, dear readers, here are five things I'm wondering about Hong Kong right now...
1. Will relocating to the opposite side of Earth suddenly make me a morning person?
2. Will 'the Chinese' truly assert themselves as my mortal enemies, like my dad says they will?
3. Do they have milkshakes? I'll drink them up!
4. Should I start smoking 8 cigarettes per day, to build up a tolerance for Hong Kong's notorious air pollution? Or am I getting a similar dose in NYC anyway?
5. Will I be able to amuse my "pasty, big boned" self? Thanks for the warning, Hemlock. Illuminating. Really. I'm coming - and I'm bringing a straw.... I'm drinking your milkshake.
These are the things I am interested in finding out. I am eager to get started with the business of living there and all that it entails - and I am very, very sad to leave my friends. It has been an interesting 8 years, to say the least.
In this space, I'll be chronicling my last couple of months in NYC, as well as reflecting on the past eight years. We've experienced 9/11, a blackout and a transit strike together. I wouldn't wish to experience any of those things again - but I'm glad I was here. Plus, you cannot NOT be entertained by local politics... It has been nothing if not interesting...
Who knows what China will bring... a Revolution perhaps? One thing is certain - there will be some monumental changes as the region gains more wealth and power. Whatever happens - I'll take you along with me, through blog posts on Gweilicious, emails, photos - and hopefully visits. There had better be visits from Gweilicious friends.
